The Olive Green Smokey Eye | FOTD

“bornprettystore

Lately I've been experimenting a bit more with my eye makeup. For the past many years my go-to look has been a light neutral eyeshadow look with winged liner. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love that look still, but I have a lot of eye shadows in my collection that never get any love and I want to start using them more! I've been going sans-cateye more frequently lately and I really like the changed look!
“bornprettystoreFor the look above I swept an olive green shimmery shadow across my eyelid over primer. Then I took a medium brown matte through my crease. I highlighted my inner corner with a shimmery champagne shade. I then took the olive shadow along my lower lashline, and finished the look off with curled lashes and 2 coats of mascara. This look was super easy to achieve and I loved the result!

The star of this look was the gorgeous olive green eyeshadow, JoJo #18* from BornPrettyStore. It's a deep olive shade with gold shimmer throughout and applied smoothly with minimal fallout. It's good for someone like myself who is a neutral shadow lover, because it introduces some colour in a fairly neutral way. I feel like this look will be a new go-to for me, since it's super quick and easy and looks great!

You can get 10% off your order from BornPrettyStore when you use the code TCH10.

Get Ready With Me | Everyday Glam

I was playing with my new camera the other day and I thought I'd try filming a video with it! It's not perfect but I'm happy with how it came out considering it was my first time trying the video function! I did a get ready with me video featuring the look I wear most often. This is my go-to makeup look because I know it'll always look good for any occasion. The eye look is neutral as well and looks great with any lip colour! I might start making a couple of videos here and there but this blog will still remain primarily regular blog posts, it won't become all videos so no worries! Let me know what you think below or if you have any other video ideas!

Face of the Day: Chocolate Smokey Eye + Nude Lip

face of the day fotd makeup fall winter makeup neutral smokey eye nude kylie jenner lip face of the day fotd makeup fall winter makeup neutral smokey eye nude kylie jenner lip Today I thought I'd share a face of the day with you. Lately I've been experimenting more with doing eye makeup without winged liner. I know for most people it'd be a bold thing to try wearing winged liner, but for me it's the opposite! I've worn winged liner almost daily since about 2007 but I want to expand my makeup looks I do on myself and I've enjoyed a more smokey look lately without my signature cateye.

I used Tarte's new Bon Voyage kit eye shadow palette on my eyes along with a sample of their Lights Camera Lashes mascara I have and I really love both! This palette has been my go-to palette lately, it's gorgeous. For this look I mainly used shades from the 2nd row down, so the warmer chocolatey brown neutral shades.

Face of the Day: Golden + Blue

This is the makeup I wore yesterday and I really loved how it came out so I thought I'd share it here! I really love mixing neutral colours on the eyelid and then adding a pop of colour on the lower lashline. For this look I used a NYX Slide On liner that I just bought and paired it with golden and bronze shades from my Naked2 palette! I'm so in love with how this look turned out! I know I'll be recreating this quite often.

Products Used:

Face:
- Revlon Nearly Naked foundation in 110 Ivory
- Marcelle translucent face powder
- ELF blush in Mellow Mauve
- NYC Sunny Bronzer
- ELF Eyebrow Kit in Medium

Eyes:
- Too Faced Shadow Insurance
- NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil in Milk (inner corners only)

Stila Merry & Bright Palette: Swatches, Review, + FOTD

I recently purchased the Merry & Bright palette from Stila on Asos.com because it was on sale for $8.85 and it was such a good offer that I couldn't pass it up. This is a limited edition holiday palette that Stila released in 2012. I've never owned any Stila makeup but have been wanting to try it for a while, so I was really excited when I saw this on sale at Asos!

Unfortunately, when I opened the palette one of the eye shadows had broken and gotten all over the rest of the palette, including in the cream blush/lip colour at the bottom. I contacted Asos' customer service right away though and they were great. Since the palette was out of stock by then, they refunded my money! So I literally got this for free! I can't really complain about it being broken then, I guess! It is still usable too.

After I cleaned it up a bit the palette was looking much better. It comes in a cardboard palette, with a mirror on the top flap, and it closes with a magnet. The palette is around the size of my hand. The palette includes 6 eye shadows, 1 cream blush/lip colour, and a lip glaze.

The eye shadows in this palette are gorgeous. There are three matte shades, and three shimmery shades. I love that they combined the two, since I love to mix textures in my eye shadow looks! And the 6 shadows included in this palette are perfect for creating neutral everyday looks.

The first 3 shadows are a deep shimmery brown, a matte cream colour, and a shimmery pinky-nude.

The other 3 shadows are a matte medium brown, a matte black, and a shimmery bronze. All of the shadows swatched beautifully, and have a really soft texture. I'm super bummed the medium brown matte shade is the one that broke, because otherwise that's probably the one I would use most! It's so versatile!

The cream blush is a peachy pink colour that I think would be flattering on many different skin tones. It isn't too sticky or dry, it's nice and creamy and applies very smoothly! There is no shimmer in this blush either, so this is a very natural blush colour. This can also be worn on the lips too!

The palette also came with a lip glaze in the shade Kitten. I'm not much of a lip gloss girl (I like my matte lipsticks), but this product could definitely change that for me!

Kitten is a light peachy-bronze colour with lots of golden shimmer. The sparkles aren't too big though so it doesn't look too glittery on the lips, but still provides a beautiful shine. This lipgloss was very comfortable too, and lasted for around 8 hours until I took it off!

Here's a look I created using all 6 shadows, the cream blush, and the lip glaze! I think this palette will definitely get a lot of use! It's also my first time using a cream blush and I love the look of it.

There's another Stila holiday palette on sale on Asos.com for around $11 and I'm tempted to buy that one too, but I'm worried about that one breaking as well! I might take my chances though, because I love this palette already.

Pros:
• Low sale price
• Mix of matte and shimmery shadows
• Pigmented and soft shadows
• Beautiful and wearable cream blush
• Wearable and comfortable lip gloss

Cons:
• One shadow arrived broken

Valentine's Day: Outfit, Nails, and Makeup of the Day!

Hey everyone! I hope you all had a great Valentine's Day! In the past I've been kind of negative and bitter about Valentine's Day, but this year I decided to make the most of it for myself! I wore a new dress, baked some cookies, and spent some time with my family.

This is the outfit I wore yesterday. I just got this dress last weekend and I'm absolutely in love with it. I paired it with a black cardigan, my faux leather jacket, black tights, and my black boots!

For my makeup I wanted to do something bright, so I pulled out my old Coastal Scents Creative Me #1 palette and my 88 palette to create this bright look! I used to wear bright makeup like this on almost a daily basis, and I kind of missed it! It was so fun to do!

On my nails I did this cute heart & glitter manicure. As a base on all of my nails I applied OPI's Pink Friday, and then used Revlon Red to create the hearts, and Wet n' Wild's Wild Shine in Sparked on my ring fingers!

I also baked some sugar cookies just for fun the night before Valentine's Day! They turned out great and they're so delicious! I used various sized heart cookie cutters for most of them, and then cut out a couple of ampersands as well just using a knife since I love ampersands. I used this recipe but I split it in half.

Face of the Day + New Blog Name?

Hey everyone! Here's another face of the day! Lately I've been trying to come up with some day-to-day looks with my Urban Decay Naked2 palette using some of the shadows in the palette I don't usually go to. So far I'm really liking the results! This is a look I created when I used Busted and Blackout, as well as another shimmery champagne eye shadow in my collection.

For this look I applied Champagne to the inner 2/3 of my lid, as well as in my inner corner and about 1/3 of the way in on my lower lashline, on top of NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk. Next, I applied Busted to the outer third of my lid and blended it up into the crease a bit. Then I darkened up the outer corner with Blackout. I also took Busted underneath my eyes on the outer 2/3.

Face:
  • Revlon Colorstay foundation in 101 Ivory
  • Marcelle translucent face powder
  • NYX blush in Pinched
  • NYC Smooth Skin bronzer in Sunny
  • Bedhead Cyberoptics eyeshadow in Champagne (worn as highlight)
Eyes:
  • Too Faced Shadow Insurance
  • NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk (applied to inner corner and waterline)
  • Bedhead Cyberoptics eyeshadow in Champagne
  • Urban Decay Naked2 Palette (Busted, Blackout)
  • Maybelline Line Stiletto liquid eyeliner
  • Maybelline One by One Volum Express mascara
Lips:
  • EOS lip balm in Summer Fruit scent
Now, to address the other part of the title of this blog post, I'm changing my blog name! I don't really like using just my name as my blog name, I kind of just chose it when making this blog because I couldn't think of anything else. So shortly I will be switching my blog name to Lipstick & Lacquer, and my url will be lipstickandlacquer.blogspot.com! Once I do switch names and my URL I'll make a post again to remind everyone. I'm just working on my new blog design for my new name right now!
